Mick Proud Wins at Cleveland

Mick Proud has spent the winter training to improve on his fantastic debut season as a GB Age Grouper in 2009.
Mick has proved that he is a consistent performer across all three disciplines, but we were confident that he could make big gains on the bike in 2010 and some incremental gains on the swim and the run.

On 9th May Mick put that training to the test and pulled a cracking performance at the Cleveland Sprint Triathlon, taking fourth place overall and winning the Veteran prize.

After each race I always like to reflect on the performance quickly, to pick up on how each phase went and where there might be scope for improvement. Although we have done a lot of good work on pre-race warm up routines, with very positive results Mick was quick to point out that he didn't get chance to warm up and his 05:30 swim could have been even quicker.

There was a long run to transition and that lead into a breakthrough performance on the bike - we knew from the winter training that he would be moving it up a notch, he proved this to be the case by riding through into third place overall.

Mick's run pace is improving on last season, but now that he is mixing it up with the top tier runners he wants to go even faster - alas he was overtaken on the run to finish fourth overall. But a very pleasing performance none the less!
As well as competing at the ETU Championships in July, Mick aims to qualify for the ITU Championships in Budapest. As if that isn't enough to focus on for one year we are also stepping up to Middle Distance racing, after last years perfromance at the infamous Helvellyn Triathlon we are very confident that he can hold the pace over longer durations.
